Based on the Sookie Stackhouse / Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, HBO's True Blood centers around Bon Temps, Louisiana. After the creation of the manufactured blood substitute, vampires have been able to 'come out of the coffin.' Not everyone enjoys having a vampire for a neighbor, but some (not all) vampires are attempting to mainstream.

Main character Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress meets and falls in love with vampire Bill Compton. There's is a true romance, but not without its hitches. Shapeshifters, paranormal creatures, and other sundry nonhumans are all around, and Sookie can't seem to stay out of drama or danger. Completing the cast is best friend Tara, boss and shapeshifter Sam, and vampire Bar owner Eric.
